Rule 7
Study Visa
(1) Foreigners and their families who come to study, teach or research in an educational institution of Nepal and their families will be given a study visa after receiving the approval of the Government of Nepal.
(2) Except foreigners who come to study and research under a scholarship received from the Government of Nepal or under a program approved by the Government of Nepal or under an agreement between two universities or foreigners who come to study from member countries of the South Asian Regional Cooperation Organization (SAARC) or foreigners who come to study up to secondary level. For other foreigners who wish to study and research for their own pleasure while staying in Nepal, they can spend a minimum of three thousand US dollars or its equivalent in Nepalese currency per year and in the case of their families a minimum of two thousand US dollars or its equivalent in Nepali currency during their stay in Nepal. A study visa will be granted only on the basis of submission of a copy of the foreign currency receipt or the equivalent Nepali currency in the local bank.
(3) Study visas will be issued for one year at a time. If it is necessary to extend the period for more than that, the deadline can be extended by considering the study and research progress details and activities of such persons as well as other necessary things. But in the case of researchers and students, such a period will be for the duration of the additional research period or the duration of the academic degree under study. (3A.) Notwithstanding anything written in sub-rule (3), in the case of those who are studying technical subjects, a study visa can be granted at once for the duration of the academic degree in the relevant subject.
(4) The recommendation of the relevant ministry should be submitted for the study visa.
(5) Application for study visa should be made in the format as per schedule-2.
